Family and Charity Meet 24th - 26th June 2011 Horley Scout Camp
A total of 28 units attended this smashing meet, including 30 children who entered into the spirit of things and enrolled onto the activities on offer. Friday evening set an awful picture with torrential rain, but true to the weather forecast. Saturday brought glorious sunshine, and at times, dare I say it was too hot!! I dare say many saw the rain on Friday evening and stayed away, but they missed two brilliant days in the tranquil settings of this wonderful camp site.
On Friday evening Dean Bennett our Chairman, Dave Sewell our Treasurer and Esther Bennett Secretary / Vice Chair met with Faith Hall from the Warwickshire Northampton Air Ambulance to present her with a cheque and cash to the total of £1467.34.
This money was raised at our previous Family/ Charity meet as well as from collection tins, badge sales, bonus balls and other collections made at our meets.
A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO GAVE SO GENEROUSLY.
Let's see if we can beat this total by raising even more this season. I can report that during this weekend we made £264.50 from the awning sales, bonus ball, Whiskey raffle, cake stall, card stall, raffle, t. shirts, auction and meet fees. We are well on the way, lets just keep it going. Remember we are raising funds for both the Air Ambulance and Harrison's Journey this year.
Here is a 'snap shot' of the weekends activities......
Archery............
all set up, and some on the 'spot' instructions
Jessica eyeing up the target, Jill getting more tips
and some more... professional Robin Hood a.k.a Les taking aim
Brian and Terry adamant they're going to beat Les!!
Lucy was just Brilliant.
Several met for the communal BBQ beside the Marquee
and then fun began with smashing a Pinata, was it a donkey or a giraffe, who knows, but great fun was had by young and not so young .........
it really brought the worst out in everyone...
and actually hitting it was very hard so the adults had a go...............
Eventually the sweets fell and every child had a share.
Sunday brought the sun again and our Coffee Morning where there was a Homemade Cake and Card Stall and a Raffle with prizes for all ages to choose from....
Everyone arrived and were served with Coffee, Tea,or Squash and a biscuit while Dean read out the announcements....
Several cakes were auctioned and .....
Brian was determined to get that fruit cake.
The Raffle Draw took place and it was evenly drawn between children and adults .... luckily
Straight after Coffee Morning the Zip-Wire opened again with the chance for adults to have a go
Safer behind the fence I think.....!!
Down came Lucy, followed by Trevor
and then Jackie, well done to you all.
I am sure everyone will agree that it was a Brilliant weekend and the weather certainly made it.
Thank you to Sue, Gary, Lucy and Jessica for Stewarding and assisting with all of the activities.
Also to Dean and Jackie for their unstinting enthusiasm and all other committee members and volunteers for their help and support in all events during the meet.
