Brailes 1st - 3rd October
What a Brilliant Weekend!! Friday night with only seven units out, and pouring rain throughout the evening it looked to be the start of an awful weekend. How wrong could you be? Saturday was beautiful, everyone chatted and sat outside of their vans. Kevin and Lesley had already issued us all with a quiz to name the person in the photographs, and asked us to decide whether we wanted to order chicken curry, rice and naan bread or chilli, rice and garlic bread so they could take orders by 1pm. By 6pm the weather forecast came in as "wet throughout the night with more rain and strong winds for Sunday", so off we set at 7.30pm armed with macks and brollies to the hall. What can I say but what fantastic hosts Lesley and Kevin are, they were assisted throughout the weekend by their son Connor and their Friends Darren and Lorraine and their son and daughter Dale and Stacie. We started the evening with a game of skittles, what a scream, the skittles were plastic and the balls were very light and with the floor running out you can imagine the scores were not too great. Some managed and were tacticle but the majority just missed!!! all said and done Trevor won in a sudden death play off against Pete. A music quiz followed which was a close run thing with Carol and Steve winning by one point. Then it was time for the food, most if not all present had seconds and thoroughly enjoyed their curry and naans, no-one ordered the chilli so it made life a bit easier for the cooks!!! But the bonus was garlic bread as an extra, thanks both. Well we didn't think things could get any better but we went on to have a game of bingo, Trevor suggested half of the takings be donated to the Air Ambulance which everyone felt was a great idea. I can honestly say I haven't laughed so much in a while. Our caller for the night was a brilliant act, or was it for real, it took around five minutes for each number to be called as Darren either had a drink break!! or asked what the saying was for that number, it really was a scream. All said and done £12.00 was raised for the Air Ambulance and everyone had aBrilliant time. I would like to say a great big THANK YOU mainly to Kevin, Lesley and Connor but also to their lovely friends Lorraine, Darren, Dale and Stacie. We will look forward to next years meet at Brailes, your names are already down to Steward the meet!
Kind regards Esther and Terry Bennett and I'm sure I speak for everyone else who was there.
